Objective: By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to effectively use the 10 key terms to describe the concepts of pharmaceutical science and biopharmacy.

Vocabulary:

  1. Pharmaceuticals: a medicinal drug prepared and sold for medical purposes
  2. Biopharmaceuticals: a drug made from compounds produced by living organisms, including plants, animals, or microorganisms
  3. Synthetic drugs: treatments manufactured using chemical processes
  4. Drug delivery systems: methods of delivering drugs to the body, such as capsules, tablets, patches, and injections
  5. Pharmacodynamics: the study of how drugs interact with the body
  6. Pharmacokinetics: the study of how drugs move through the body and are metabolized
  7. Pharmacogenetics: the study of how genetic differences influence the body’s response to drugs
  8. Clinical trials: studies conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments
  9. Adverse effects: reactions to drugs that are harmful or unpleasant
  10. Drug resistance: the ability of a microorganism to resist the effects of a drug

Lesson Plan:

I. Introduction (5 minutes)
A. Explain the purpose of the lesson
B. Introduce the 10 key terms

II. Vocabulary Activity (15 minutes)
A. Give a definition for each of the key terms
B. Ask the student to give examples for each of the key terms

III. Discussion (20 minutes)
