Vocabulary for Describing Nutrition and Dietetics

Objective:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand and use relevant vocabulary related to nutrition and dietetics.

Materials:
Whiteboard, dry erase markers

Vocabulary Words:

  • Nutrient
  • Food group
  • Macronutrients
  • Micronutrients
  • Calorie
  • Balanced diet
  • Carbohydrates
  • Protein
  • Fats
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes): Explain the topic and why it’s important.
  2. Brainstorm (5 minutes): Ask the students to brainstorm words related to nutrition and dietetics. Write the words they come up with on the board.
  3. Present Vocabulary Words (10 minutes): Go over the vocabulary words one by one. Ask the students to define each word in their own words.
  4. Group Activity (15 minutes): Give each group a set of the vocabulary words. Ask each group to come up with a sentence for each word.
  5. Summary (5 minutes): Ask each group to share their sentences and review the words one more time.

Summary:

  • Explained the topic and why it’s important
  • Brainstormed words related to nutrition and dietetics
  • Presented vocabulary words and asked students to define each one in their own words
  • Conducted a group activity where each group created sentences for each word
  • Reviewed the words one more time
