Objective: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and understand key environmental science and social justice words, and use them in a sentence.

Materials: White board or projector, vocabulary worksheet, pen/pencil

Introduction (5 minutes):

• Introduce the lesson: Today, we will be learning about vocabulary that’s related to environmental science and social justice.
• Explain why this is important: In order to understand current events, it is important to understand the language used to describe relevant topics.
• Explain why it is important to understand the terms: Not only understanding the terms, but also understanding the implications of each term.

Vocabulary Instruction (20 minutes):

• Introduce each vocabulary word, explaining the meaning and giving an example if necessary.
• Ask students to provide another example of the word.
• Discuss the implications of the word and any related topics.

Vocabulary Practice (15 minutes):

• Divide the class into pairs.
• Pass out the worksheet, which contains a list of the vocabulary words.
• Instruct the students to match the words with their correct definitions.
• After the students have finished, discuss as a class and answer any questions.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

• Summarize what was learned: Today we learned about key vocabulary related to environmental science and social justice.
• Ask students to provide an example of a vocabulary term: What is an example of a vocabulary word we discussed today?
• Remind students to ask questions if they are unsure: If you are ever unsure of a term or definition, please ask.
