Objective:

At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:
• Recognize and use common phrases to talk about their favorite foods and drinks
• Share their food preferences in a conversation
• Ask others about their favorite foods and drinks with confidence

Materials:

• Dry erase boards
• Markers
• Pencils
• Worksheet with food and drink vocabulary

Introduction (5 minutes):

• Introduce the topic of the lesson to the student – talking about favorite foods and drinks
• Remind the student of open-ended phrases they know to start conversations (e.g. “What do you like to eat?”, “What’s your favorite drink?”)
• Explain that today’s lesson will be focused on recognizing and using common phrases to talk about their favorite foods and drinks

Body (15 minutes):

• Write the names of different foods and drinks on the board for the student to read
• Ask the student to share their favorite food and drink
• Using the worksheet, go over common phrases with the student as they point to the words on the board
• Demonstrate with a partner how to have a conversation about favorite foods and drinks (e.g. “I like pizza. What type of pizza do you like?”)
• Ask the student to practice having a conversation with a partner, emphasizing the phrases they learned
• Repeat with different food and drink items

Conclusion (5 minutes):

• Ask the student to share what they learned with the class
• Ask the student to come up with other phrases to talk about foods and drinks
• Have the student practice what they learned for a few minutes
